The most perfect dessert: a sweet connoisseur’s tale of chocolate bliss.

Thankfully, I have the privilege of the “Unsatisfied Sweet Tooth.” This affliction has sent me far and wide in search of new and previously undiscovered “treats” to add to my conquered list. There is one dessert in Phoenix though that always brings me back, time and time again. (I have not been able to try a new one off their fantastic dessert menu because this one is just so magical)
Tarbell’s on Camelback is the home to this little gem. The simple title of “Warm Chocolate Cake” with Pistachio Ice Cream is no match for the decadent dessert that arrives before you. I am a connoisseur of Pistachio Ice Cream and this is my very favorite! Our wonderful server was warm and gracious and helped recommend an excellent dessert wine to accompany our cake. We settled on the Taylor-Fladgate 20 yr. old Tawny Port. The anticipation for the dessert’s arrival began.
Then suddenly this magical creation appeared before us and my patience was not pushed any further! The pale mint green scoop that rests atop the chocolate covered cake set my heart aflutter. Pistachios were artfully sprinkled on the plate and set the mood for the very first bite.

The most perfect dessert. Anywhere.
My dessert buddy told me that my eyes glazed over after my first bite, but I couldn’t help it! The first taste of the rich, warm chocolate cake blended with the Pistachio ice cream needed a moment of silence and in fact, conversation ceased until the plate was licked clean. It was that good. The cake was served at the perfect temperature so that the ice cream did not melt immediately. (note: I suggest ordering an extra scoop just to be safe–ok…I admit that I adore their Pistachio ice cream and that extra scoop is solely for my benefit)
Do not miss out on the Lavender Biscotti! I always order a side of these most delightful pastries and they really showcase the forward and trendy culinary thinking that Tarbell’s has always represented. Biscotti usually brings to mind solidified breadsticks that you have to leave in your coffee cup for a extended period of time before you feel confident that an unexpected dental visit will not become part of the day’s activities. Tarbell’s Lavender Biscotti has subtle lavender undertones and the perfect slightly firm yet easily enjoyable texture–no coffee needed. My “foodie” companion ordered an after dessert espresso and enjoyed pairing his biscotti with it immensely. I can’t wait to go back and someday I hope to try their Mascarpone Cheesecake with Rosemary Caramel Sauce.

Mmmmmm. You have me drooling.
