I had an opportunity to again visit this store on Sunday. It is very well put together and the products are for the most part, high quality and unique. The cheese and wine staff were very knowledgeable and on top of things. I waited a couple of extra minutes for my sandwich and pizza because they were busy, but it was worth the wait. I like that they are supporting local suppliers (MJ Bread, Tammie Coe, Julia Baker, Essence Bakery, etc.). We are lucky to have this store in our community. Because of my real estate background, I can see why the developer of this shopping center gave them such a prominent location in their project. Keep up the good work Oakville.

I was so excited to visit the Oakville Grocer, I too have a great memory of the Napa Oakville.
However, I was pretty disappointed. I have visited 5 times so I do think that I have given it a good try. The portions are to small, expensive and very inconsistant. The gals behind the drink counter need a lot more training ON everything.....There is no flow to buying your lunch. The staff is somewhat friendly...It is a good concept that needs a TON of work. Dave in the wine shop is the best asset the place has.....I will keep trying it because it is close to home, friends all want to try it, I love the idea of it working and last but not least, the food in the cold case is creative and tasty.

Not done giving them a shot.......

We went in this morning right after reading Suzie's article. We had a very good experience. The artisanal pizza with wild mushrooms and house-made mozzarella was delicious. The baked goods were gorgeous and we came away with almost $100 worth of goodies. My pocketbook does not thank you but my tummy certainly does. Service was very good too. Probably they just need to work out some kinds as Erica says above. The pizza chef was super friendly and seemed very concerned that we were happy with our pizza which we were. Tonite we dine on walnut bread, pate, cornichon, potato salad, french olive mix and Tammy Coe's turtle bars. Mmmmmm

I too was excited about the arrival of this great store. We went to get takeout lunch about week after it opened and boy were we disapointed. They have a lot of work to do in order to get the kinks out. The sandwich/salad/pizza counter was very confusing and disorganized. It literally took us over 1/2 hour to get a salad and a sandwich after we ordered it. I was given the wrong salad twice with no apology. When we got home, the salad which was supposed to be 'artisan' consisted of dry chicken, some almonds and butter lettuce. I certainly could have made that much quicker and better at home. My boyfriend's sandwich, while delicious, basically fell apart in the bag as it wasn't properly wrapped. I think the store is a great concept but they need to get their counter service up to speed. I'll try again in a few months, but it was a pretty bad experience.

Thanks so much for letting me know about this opening. I am from the Bay Area and love this grocery store. It's been very difficult to find quality around here and I've been here 16 years. It's gotten better, I must say, but this store makes me so happy I can scream (like you did). All we need now is Don Gionvanni Restaurant to move here and we're set! (It's a really, really good restaurant in Napa off Highway 29)

Napa with Susie and Eric.. so many memories :)

I'm excited about an Oakville Grocery in Scottsdale. We will have to stop in when I come to AZ for a visit this summer! See if you can talk them into opening up shop in Las Vegas.

This is great news. Ironically we drove by the store just two days ago and saw the name and were not familiar with the Oakville Grocery brand. We slowly drove by and thought it was just a restaurant, although the name indicated otherwise. From the drive by we couldn't tell it holds everything your great photos reveal. We will be returning very soon to check out this new store. Who doesn't love Napa anyhow? Also, hubby will be thrilled to be able to have Rombauer by the glass while he shops. How cool is that?
